My Book

The Ethical Meat Handbook: Complete Butchery, Charcuterie and Cooking for the Conscious Omnivore is set to publish in November 2015. Within its pages, I combine my experience as a farmer, home cook, commercial cook, food activist, and founder of a small-scale butcher shop to assess the current experience of meat eating in America, and offer delicious and holistic ideas. In the process of working on this project, I am meeting many amazing human and non-human animals, eating great food, and healing my own heart from a recent existential reckoning. The website and social media background for the book are all linked to “mereleighfood”, “ethicalmeatbook” or “ethicalmeathandbook” and use the hashtag #butcherbook.
